Thursday: Chandu!

I know this isn't really horrorful like a truly halloweeny halloween picture should be but I really wanted to dress up like Chandu for Halloween and I couldn't find any of the right kinda gear for it so instead I did a quick portrait of my favorite serial star: Edmund Lowe as CHANDU!

I started doing a study based on the painting by William Gillbert below, but ended up with this. Not only is Gillbert's a sweet illusion, it's also the creepiest thing I've ever seen. I think it's called "Gossip", so I can only assume he was gossiped over as a child.

Oh! I revamped the blog at to post my 3D modeling learnings. Feel free to tear me a new one.

Halloween Week!

We've got doodlers doodling some doodle-riffic treats as we march to All Hallow's Eve!

Watched this movie last night and drew this. Nosferatu had the biggest snout EVAH. I liked how everyone in the movie had stick legs and big coats - it seemed to emphasize the stick legs!

Michael Myers

Halloween is this coming Friday! I hope to post up a few more monsters this week.

Sunday Stretch

I like how this one came out, sometimes you get lucky.

In reality Austin's Delaware Sub Shop is quite clean and graffiti free. Not to mention providers of a bitchen' Philly cheesesteak.

The Rebel

Pencil sketch for James. Favorite movie starring this guy: Giant.

Dry Erase Shavings

Table doodle! Would it be cool with you cats if I posted my 3D progress on this blog for feedback?

I must warn you that it will be very raw, so our readership might decline by thousands.

For the Birdz

Pen is juuuuust about dry here, but I got the most out of it. Worked particularly well on feathers.

Also: Birds are awesome because they are dinosaurs.

Edco Approved

I wholeheartedly endorse large belt buckles and hiphugger jeans.

JASE does Edco girl

Now, I'm no really sure what Edco is in drawing style per se (you just know when you see it), but somehow I felt it while sketching this girl. I only got so far in color - I wanted to post it tonite cuz if I don't I'll probably forget to later. The "S." in S.EDco is for "super". ;)

Secret Saturdays

Has anyone checked out Secret Saturdays? It's the new show paired up with Clone Wars on Cartoon Network... and I dare say it may be the better half of that lineup.

The show's got a Johnny Quest/Herculoids vibe, with a bit of Van Helsing Family values. Pretty good adventure fare at least in the state of modern cartoons. I notice the adult character's dialog has got a less structured tone that most things written for children. But as such the show does feature an annoying child character that the world of course revolves around, written by a room full of grown-ups that try and make him sound cool. But the show's not written for me, after all. I also notice that the show features what in my recollection is cartoondom's first interracial couple. What took that so long?

The episodes so far have been fun, tho I can't say the show is super amazing because I'm not, you know, twelve. But since I'm not twelve I think I can say that Mrs. Saturday is pretty hot.

Show creator and all around fab-artist Jay Stephens has a blog, it's listed to the right in our artist blogroll.

Drawings with Video!

So, I guess to kick off the new year (of Cup Doodle) I wanted to try something new... Drawings with video! This is my first test! Here's the large video of it (6mb):

Thursday, October 2, 2008

I started Cup Doodle one year ago and was lucky to get some very talented friends to join in on the fun. I'd like to thank not only my fellow doodlers but everyone who has stopped by over the past year. We've been sketching up a storm with more on the way, and encourage all our visitors to leave comments to let us know what you think.

Speaking of...

COMMENT CHALLENGE! I know you're out there, leave a comment! Make a doodle request in this post and odds are you'll get it! (from me at least)

Cool Hand

He just got better with age. Mr. Newman made two of my favorite movies later in his career: The Verdict and The Color Of Money. This sketch is for him.
