Viking paint (photoshop)

A tiny viking I did to test out my new cintiq21UX. A decent investment I hope.
I think I made his wooly sandals too 'poofy'. Maybe they should be more shaggy fur-like...

Dark Irony!

Dark Irony is finally up on iTunes!

This is a story a friend of mine wrote with different choices for the reader to make - along the lines of the old "choose your own adventure" books. I did the illustrations. There aren't as many as there should be, but they're just fluff for the great story. Originally we thought this seemed like a good thing to do on a Kindle or e-reader so the art style reflects the limited 16 color grayscale of e-ink. (Of course now they've recently announced that they can will be able to do color e-ink.)

Anyways, please go check out Dark Irony on iTunes.

You can read the first chapter and then do an in app purchase for the rest of the story.

Next post, I'll cover how I created the images. It was something new for me and pretty fun.

Trollkin

No time for colors this morning. But I liked the rough trollkin design in yesterday's sketch so I "fleshed" it out more here.

911

I really hope this image doesn't offend people. If it does - none was meant. I felt like characterizing the immaturity of violence and war.

water golem

He looks kinda funny with the outlines - I was going for a gelatinous form filled with water and all bubbly inside. So I drew stuff inside and the backside like he's translucent. I think it'd work better in color...

Yeah - you thought I had a short run - I've been drawing every day - just didn't make it to a computer during the long weekend.

John Law

"The Ascent of Money" on PBS last night talked a bit about John Law and his scheme to sell stocks in Louisiana shipping to the French. It failed miserably.
Snow Leopard doesn't want to play nicely with my old scanner. After fighting with it for a while I scanned this in via my wife's computer. No time for colors :( Maybe later.

(I realized I have only been timing color work and not sketching - I will include both from now on.)

Troopers always seems to miss...

Yeah, I'm still alive.
But my drawing seems to be hit or miss...

So, I'm going to take a stab at posting daily in September.

My goal is to get better at concepting & colors. Bear with me and please give me pointers.

sketchbook

Took Autodesk Sketchbook for a drive. Did my own concept car after watching the demo video. Great responsiveness - too bad there's no canvas rotate. Only right angles. :(

Punisher

Here's a pic I've been meaning to post. (scanned straight out of the sketchbook - no touch ups) Trying to keep up on my perspective/foreshortening skillz. At first I was cross-hatching the shading, but then I found a gray marker I thought I'd try... I don't think the two work well together, but it isn't total shite. LOL Really I need to go get more grays and play with them!
